Chapter 10 > Projects from the
Chinese Button Knot
As a decorative knot, the Chinese button knot is right on
par with the Turk’s Head knot. Ashley’s Book of Knots calls the
Chinese button knot every name in the book: #787, the sailor’s
knife lanyard knot, the marlinspike lanyard knot, the single-
strand diamond knot, the two-strand diamond knot, and the
bosun’s whistle knot. The Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy
Rope Work calls the Chinese button knot #190, the two-strand
carrick diamond knot. Kim Sang Lan, in her beautiful book
Knot Craft, calls it a lotus knot, or the button knot.
