Galena Park Independent School
District (GPISD) encompasses 33 square
miles along the ship channel in east Harris County.
The district has a current enrollment of more than
22,000 students on 23 campuses, and employs ap-
proximately 3,000 people. Through the commitment
of dedicated staff and supportive parents, GPISD
ensures all students receive a rich and inspiring edu-
cation. The district provides many learning opportu-
nities to foster curiosity, creativity and participation
in the world.

The district partners with various business, educa-
tion and government entities to provide opportunities
and inspiration for students. For example, through a partnership with San Jacinto College, the MECA (Modified
Early College Academy) program allows students to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate de-
gree. Partnerships with Harris County have brought the Almatha C. Taylor Clinic and the South Side Clinic to
local communities. Furthermore, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $1,000,000 in scholarships
and innovative teaching grants since its inception in 1998.
Innovation, planning and teamwork are key components of GPISD’s success. While there are many acco-
lades that bear witness to the success of the district, the Financial Allocation Study for Texas awarded the district
top scores five years in a row, stating GPISD has a very low spending index relative to the quality of education
students receive. GPISD remains committed to educating students in a safe and secure environment while being

Channelview Independent School District (CISD) is a known for its reputation of
outstanding student achievement. With an enrollment of more than 9,500 students, the district is recognized
as a leader in education. The district has earned the Met Standard rating under the Texas Education Agency’s
accountability system for four consecutive years. In addition, Channelview ISD schools received 18 Distinction
Designation honors from the Texas Education Agency for exemplary academic performance on specific areas of
the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams. Channelview ISD is also proud of its high
graduation rates, as they have surpassed the state average four years in a row. Programs such as the Modified Early
College Academy have been successful as 79 students have received their Associate’s Degree, along with their high
school diploma over the past six years. The district has 12 campuses, including a pre-K center, seven elementary
