schools, two junior high campuses, high school and alternative school. Channelview High School has also been
the recipient of the U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools. Schools were awarded based on their per-
formance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. CISD has a rich history of being
“actively engaged in the future of the community”. The district was established in 1937 and at that time employed
eight teachers. Today, its 1,292 employees that are committed to making certain that every child in Channelview
receives the best education possible.

Sheldon Independent School District (SISD) The district currently serves a diverse stu-

dent population of more than 8,900 on 10 campuses in northeast Harris County. Sheldon ISD is one of the fastest
growing school districts in the Houston area. The district is maintaining an average growth rate of around 4 per-
cent every year.
Sheldon ISD is committed to its students. The
goal of SISD teachers and administrators is to provide the
best education possible so that students will have choices
after graduation, whether it be attending a four- year uni-
versity, serving in the military, or joining the work force.
The district offers an Early College High School
program in which students can obtain a high school de-
gree and an associate’s degree in four years. Sheldon ISD
also offers advanced placement, dual credit classes, and
exemplary fine arts and academic programs. The district
also provides numerous extracurricular opportunities
that allow students to learn teamwork and good sports-
manship. Sheldon students have excelled in various pro-
grams at the state and national levels, including the Air
Force JROTC and FFA programs.
