GEOGRAPHY
Individual communities within the North Channel
area are located in Harris County and include all of the un-
incorporated areas of Sheldon, Channelview, North Shore
and part of Humble. We also serve the cities of Galena Park
and Jacinto City, and a small portion of the City of Houston.
Residents take pride in their caring community cou-
pled with big-city conveniences. Commuting to downtown
Houston for business or entertainment takes fewer than 20
minutes, less time than from any other section of Harris
County. Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros,
is east of downtown, and the Toyota Center, home of the
Rockets, as well as the George R. Brown Convention Cen-
ter, are located on the east side of Houston. These venues
are easily accessed from the communities that make up the
North Channel Area. NRG Stadium, site of Houston Texans
home games and the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo,
is convenient as well.
The Harris County Toll Road system connects the
area with the entire greater Houston area, providing con-
venient access to other major employment, entertainment
and retail destinations. Within the North Channel area,
commercial growth has kept pace with overall community
growth as evidenced by new shopping opportunities rang-
ing from large department and grocery stores to small local
merchants. A diverse retail environment provides unlimited
goods and services to the community.
Educational opportunities serve as a major drawing
card for those seeking to provide the very best for them-
selves and their children. The area includes Galena Park ISD,
Channelview ISD, Sheldon ISD, as well as parts of Humble
and Houston districts. Achievement on standardized tests by
students has kept pace or exceeded that of other area school
districts. Athletic teams and individual athletes continue to
win championships and receive recognition for their accom-
plishments.
San Jacinto College North and Houston Community
College provide quality instruction in degree programs and
continuing education classes.
The North Channel Area is made up of several small-
er outlying communities bordering the City of Houston.
Each of these communities enjoys a long and rich history
that has helped shape their identities of today.
