With new treatments for heart attacks available,
Alexa is researching the shift of the immune
system from inflammation toward repair and
studying the links that help restore nerve tissue
in the injured heart.
Rishi Gulati
The Kenda and Ken Singer/UO Endowment Scholar
UO College of Arts and Sciences, Human Physiology
Rishi is working to determine estrogen’s role in
skeletal muscle contractility and how muscles
function in females across the lifespan. This
research could inform better health strategies
throughout life.
Vanessa Hawkins
The Lara Ogg and Alexa Cunningham Scholar
OSU College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric
Sciences
Vanessa is continuing her research to better
understand the rapid melt rate of the LeConte
Glacier in Alaska and to improve the accuracy of
glacial melt-rate predictions.
