American Indigenous Business Leaders (2)
Goal #2: Increase the number of AIBL Chapters by 10% each year (33 total for year 2).
Last year we experienced an infusion of new AIBL Chapters, which marked the largest AIBL Chapter base to date at 44 member schools. This year, we were able to retain most of that growth, with 40 Chapters renewing membership status for this school year. This year, we were able to track the number of JSF- funded schools/institutions, to determine how much support we are offering those schools specifically. We also targeted and recruited JSF Institutions to gain synergy and offer support to our mutual student base. Of our 40 AIBL Chapters, we were able to identify 11 as JSF Institutions based on the 2021 Programs Serving Indigenous Peoples list (jsf.bz/education-grants/#indigenous). A complete list of our chapters is included at the end of this report. We believe this is an important way we can support the investment the Foundation is making to support Indigenous students. A study produced by the American Indian College Fund found that students that participate in extracurricular social clubs like AIBL feel more supported in their educational pursuits and are more likely to graduate (https://resources.collegefund.org/wp-content/uploads/Creating-Visibility-and-Healthy-Learning- Environments-for-Natives-in-Higher-Education_web.pdf).
