G. Grant Program Committee meeting reflections
Malcolm then asked for input regarding the Grant Program Committee meeting:
• ANSEP: Theirs is an impressive model. Are there things JSF can do outside of financial support?
Dalhousie University: Reservations were expressed about this program. Staff and Consultants have done a lot of work with them since their first LOI was submitted over a year ago regarding working with Indigenous organizations and individuals, encouraging connections with AIBL and AISES, sharing information about ANSEP, and looking at their internal structure, diversity within leadership, and commitment to this program and its future. It was pointed out, however, that we can share these kinds of things with a grantee, but we do not want to be in the position of telling them what to do.
It was agreed, also, that the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility person was not the best person to have made the presentation, but we can’t completely control who they choose to send.
• A thought was raised about the financial sense it makes to bring people physically to the meeting. It was agreed that there is real value in actually interacting with people one-on-one, including during informal times like meals.
• It was expressed that JSF is making investments in programs that can have significant impacts on people. Should we be looking at the per-student investments?
H. Ratification of all Committee actions
The Board unanimously ratified all Committee actions taken.
7. Site visit grants
Malcolm asked for approval for site visit thank you grants of $20,000 each to Gonzaga University and to Heritage University. It was recommended that Bobby suggest the one to Gonzaga be directed to the Office of Tribal Relations.
The Board unanimously approved $20,000 each thank you grants to Gonzaga University and to Heritage University.

A. December 2024 Board Retreat – Sunday, December 8, 2024 – Palm Beach, Florida B. Spring 2025 meeting – Tuesday, March 18, 2025 – Orlando, Florida
C. Fall 2025 meeting – Tuesday, September 9, 2025 – Anchorage, Alaska
