Principles of flight

Should it happen that the engine actually stops pulling during flight, it will be an

advantage if you can stop the rotation so that the propeller is completely

               stationary.

This will increase the glide ratio, as a propeller that is spinning, due to the

influence of the air, will have a lot of air resistance. This uses energy. We will
lose altitude because the energy is given off to air resistance.

If you have the option of adjusting the blade angle, it will be best to choose a

coarse pitch – a large angle of attack on the propeller, for the sake of the glide

               ratio.

In this section, we will look at the aerodynamics in connection with the different

               phases of flight.
