Flight performance and planning

An aircraft can have a max. landing weight, MLW, which is less than MTOW.

Dumping fuel may be necessary before a safety landing shortly after takeoff.

You will find the weights in the aircraft's instruction manual and/or weighing

                report.

                7.2.1.2 Calculation of weight

The weight is found as the sum of:
                   - weight of the aircraft

                   - weight of pilot and passengers
                   - weight of luggage

This weight is subtracted from MTOW and we then know how much fuel can be

                carried.

From this, the aircraft's range and maximum flight time can be calculated.

                7.2.2 The center of gravity

                Weight, balance and center

                of gravity are inextricably

                linked.

The center of gravity is a

                calculated point in the

                aircraft where it is in

                equilibrium around all three

                axes of the aircraft.

The location of the center of gravity is of great importance for the aircraft's

                maneuverability.
