Flight performance and planning

The weights A to D (see drawing previous page) and their moment arms (a to d)

can be found in the instruction manual.

To find a center of gravity,
                you need a reference plane

                (datum).

                The datum can be found,

                for example, in the

                aircraft's weighing report.

                From the weighing report,

                we have datum and

                weights. We need this to

                find the moment.

To find the moment, multiply the moment arm by the weight.

Moment = weight * distance (kg cm)

To find the total moment with respect to the datum, the calculated moments are

                summed.

To determine the aircraft's center of gravity, the sum of the moment is divided by

                the aircraft's weight.

In practice, one looks at the aircraft's load sheet.

When flying in the utility category (aircraft designed to withstand greater loads

(e.g. aero-aircraft or aircraft in the normal category), the limits for the front and

rear centers of gravity are less than in the normal category.
