8.9.7.6 Hand propping the aircraft
If you are going to start the engine manually, it is best that the magneto switch
is in position so that the magneto with the impulse clutch is active.
Impulse coupling delays the ignition by about 25 degrees and provides a stronger
voltage and thus a better spark.
If you are going to hand-start the engine, make sure to place blocks in front of
both main wheels and have a helper who can sit in the aircraft and regulate the
throttle and hold the brake.
Have an instructor to show you how to do it!
