Aircraft general knowledge

At the bottom of the gyro instruments is a roll indicator in the form of a transom

bubble. If you are in a turn, you can see whether the roll matches the turning

                radius you are in.

If the roll is too small, the ball is thrown sideways from the direction of rotation.

The top two situations in the figure on the next page show examples of this.

You correct for this by “stepping on the ball” (giving rudder to the same side as

the ball is) or increasing the roll in the turn.

In the lower situation you can
see that the spirit level is in the

middle - here the roll is carried

                out with correct coordination

                of the rudders.

                A short film here.

                8.12.8.3 Attitude indicator

The attitude indicator is a substitute for the real horizon, when we are flying in

conditions where the natural horizon is hidden. During VFR Night or IFR flight it

is indispensable for the pilot. The gyro horizon replaces the natural horizon.

The gyro rotates around a vertical axis. It is suspended in two gimbal rings, where

the outermost has its longitudinal shafts stored in the instrument housing.
