Meteorology

3.11.3 Weather information for flight preparation

As a private pilot, it is important to be able to obtain weather information

                before starting further flight planning.

Instead of going to an airport, you can get weather information in other ways.

It is a good idea to research as much as possible about the general weather

situation before contacting a meteorologist. Let them know what information

you have already gathered for a more efficient service.

                3.11.3.1 Analysis charts

The figure here shows an analysis chart.

On the chart, you can see how the isobars are drawn and how the pressure

                systems are marked.

The isobars are drawn based on QFF for the many observation points around

the world (QFF is, as you may remember, “the pressure at an airport or

measurement point, reduced to MSL pressure according to the current

                atmospheric conditions”).
