Communication
The entire message must only be sent once, but with parts of the message
repeated to give the receiver a better chance of understanding and because
the message could coincide with messages from other aircraft.
You state the time of the next expected call so that the frequency can be free,
and the ground station can be prepared.
For example:
”Billund Twr. OYBKA transmitting blind passed Give 43 next call 47 – i say
again – Billund Tower OYBKA transmitting blind passed Give 43 next call 47”
If the aircraft is equipped with a transponder, you squawk 7600.
4.11.2.3 Ground station procedures in case of radio failure
If a ground station cannot contact you, it will try other options, e.g. transmitting
navigation aids that the ground station knows you are using.
The ground station will also blindly transmit to you and e.g. give instructions
that if you hear the message, then SQUAWK Ident or similar.
The ground station can also ask you to make a turn in a certain direction, and
if it sees you doing this, it can give further instructions.
Ex: "OY-BKA Billund TWR if you read me make a left turn - I say again OY-
BKA if you read me make a left turn"
The rules stipulate that an aircraft that has a radio failure and is flying VMC must
attempt to establish contact with the aerodrome by all means (telephone – data
link), and if this is unsuccessful, it must continue VMC and land at the nearest
suitable aerodrome, regardless of whether radio contact is required.
He must then report landing.
During the approach, he must watch for light signals from the tower.
