4.10.5 Arrival procedure and traffic circuit
When arriving at the destination airport, expect to enter the control zone or
FIZ via mandatory VFR reporting points.
If traffic allows, you can try to get a direct approach to the airport.
4.10.5.1 Traffic circuit
Below is a standard traffic circuit for a runway – in this case, runway 09.
The height in the traffic circuit is usually 1000 feet AGL on the downwind leg.
On base, you descend from about 800 feet AGL to 600 feet.
Final is flown from 600 feet AGL. (read local rules in the VFG)
4.10.5.2 Approach procedures AFIS, Radio and TWR airports
It is important to know the difference between the different places so you
know what to do when you arrive.
- AFIS and Radio airports
Here, the pilot is active and informs what they are doing based on the
information they receive.
- TWR airports
Here, the air traffic controller is active, and they provide the pilot with
instructions on what to do.
