GUARANTEED
Since 2015, under Nelson Govender’s leadership, the
Govender family has proudly owned and operated
LHL Engineering. Embodying commitment, vision,
and resilience, LHL has evolved into a Level 1 B-BBEE
business, proudly 40% woman-managed and 30%
youth-led.
With certifications including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 3834-
2, SANS Appendix 10, and ISO 45001, LHL stands as a
valued member of SASSDA and a trusted name in the
engineering and manufacturing sectors.
History and Evolution
LHL’s journey began in 1969 when German investors
founded the company as a global axle manufacturer
for the transport sector. During the apartheid era
in the 1980s, however, foreign divestment led the
management team to take ownership, expanding its
services to include tanks and pressure vessels. Despite
these advances, the 2008/09 economic downturn posed
severe challenges, nearly leading to closure or sale.
A pivotal ownership change in 2015 revitalised LHL.
With new leadership, the company underwent
restructuring and diversification, strategically targeting
new sectors and securing long-term contracts through
certifications and client partnerships.
