The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), estab-
lished in 1940, is a self-financing, state-owned national
development finance institution that supports sus-
tainable industries and finances entrepreneurs. In
building an inclusive economy through its funding
activities, the IDC strives to play a meaningful role
in society. As South Africa’s prosperity is inextricably
linked to the economic development of the rest of
Africa, enormous market potential and yet-untapped
resources are on offer.
The IDC provides niche and innovative funding
products that are aimed at enhancing and growing
the country’s regional economies. The KwaZulu-Natal
(KZN) office is one of the earliest established regional
offices, which form part of the IDC’s footprint across
all nine provinces in the country. The KZN Regional
Manager, Pat Moodley, commented, “As the head
of the IDC in KZN, our sole mandate is to extend the
reach of the IDC within the province.”
