Students discover
that Dave Barry
is LOL Funny
Three Cascia Hall students were Tulsa Town Hall (TTH) student forum moderators for guest speaker, Dave Barry, on November 4,
2016. Beau Bingham (senior), Minna Apostolova,
and Erika Ravitch (juniors) monitored the forum
preceding the main address to the TTH general
audience. Barry, a humorist, is well known for his
weekly columns appearing in over 500 newspapers, and he is a bestselling author. Joan Hubble, Library Media Specialist, Melissa Halve, English teacher, and Karen Tennery, CFO, served as sponsors of the event. Halve’s 15 AP English students attended as well, and all agreed that laughter is the best medicine and knows no age limits. Betty O’Connor, spokesperson for TTH, said,“The three moderators were outstanding and excellent ambassadors of Cascia Hall.”

Senior Beau Bingham is Elite Science Scholar
Senior Beau Bingham was recently named one of 300 top scholars in the nation by the Regeneron Science Talent Search. Last fall, he was named a Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. He is pictured here with Director of Augustinian Mission, Fr. Cascia Hall senior, Beau Bingham, has been named a Regeneron STS (Science Talent Search) Scholar. The STS is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science competition for
high school science research students. In fact, President George H.W. Bush described it as the “Super Bowl of science.” During its 75-year history, the STS program has included 12 students who subsequently achieved the Nobel Prize and many other prestigious science awards.
This year, over 1700 seniors submitted their original science research projects to be evaluated by the STS team of top research scientists and judged for creativity, novel approaches, and scienti c contributions to solving many of the world’s biggest problems. The 2017 STS scholars represent the top 300 science students nationally.
As one of the top 300 and the only one from Oklahoma, Beau is in the running as a semi nalist to be named among the top 40 nalists who will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. in March. There, the nalists will present their research and compete for additional recognition and more than $1.8 million in cash awards, with the top
award being $250,000.Traditionally the STS nalists are presented to the Congress and have the opportunity to meet with the President.
Congratulations to Beau and his teacher and mentor, Mrs. Sally Fenska, for this tremendous accomplishment. This is the rst time a student from Cascia Hall has been recognized by Regeneron STS. For more information about the award, visit the Society for Science website.
