Not for the Sake of Praise but for the Sake
of Life Improvement
I joined the team of volunteers in October 2016.
First, my peer from KFC Oksana found “The Mothers’ Home”.
We went there with a visit a few times, met its coordinator An-
nushka and the moms with their kids staying in that house. Many
women on the eve of poverty, with a broken marriage or fleeing
from domestic violence have found shelter in that house. Dur-
ing each our visit we talk to these women, providing them with
emotional and financial support. We always get a warm welcome
from these mothers. The kids quickly get familiar with us and do
not want to let us go. Every woman residing in that house has her
own story, in most cases a sad one. I have heard dozens of stories
about women being fired or losing the means for living, some
were kicked out of the house after refusing to make an abortion,
some were cruelly abused…
Fortunately, none of them remains in such state for long. Some
align the relationships with the husband, some are taken care
by their relatives, some find themselves in building a career, get
employed and become independent. I am glad that every other
sad story has a happy end! In such moments I realize that I am
witnessing a person changing and her life transforming for good.
When you are sincerely trying to help a person, it works. Un-
dertaking any step for another human we do not expect any spe-
cial recognition or praise, we expect that the person whom we
helped would be able to change herself and her life for the better.
