EMORY UNIVERSITY
Office of the Registrar – Internal Policy
Education Policy
Policy Description & Details
The Registrar’s Office supports employees who wish to further their education. While we
support your professional growth, we also need to ensure adequate coverage of all areas in the
Registrar’s Office. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis using the following
guidelines:
Up to two hours per week will be permitted to attend class, without docking your leave.
Preference will be given to those seeking a degree.
Any requested time that exceeds two hours will be handled through vacation leave or
by making up your time.
In order to make up your time, a proposal must be submitted to your manager along
with your request for Educational Leave. Keep the following in mind when
proposing your work schedule:
o Time must be made up within the same week (work week must equal 40
hours), and;
o Time can ONLY be made up between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.,
and;
o If at all possible, avoid the need for clocking assistance from the Time &
Attendance Coordinator.
If this policy does not meet your educational needs, you may wish to investigate other
University alternatives such as the University Educational Leave Policy
(http://policies.emory.edu/4.74).
To request educational leave please complete the attached form and submit to your
supervisor.
