The Guitar
Machine Head
This is where the tuning keys sit and forms the top of the guitar.
Tuning Keys
The silvery metal things that stick out of the side of the guitars machine head.
These are used to adjust the sound pitch of the strings when you tune your
guitar.
Nut
This is the white plastic thing that the strings sit on at the base of the machine
head.
Fretboard
This is the long bit that some people call the neck. This is where you will find
the frets.
Frets
These are the thin metal strips that are spaced down the fretboard. These cause
a change in notes on the strings.
Body
I don’t want to insult your intelligence with this one but it’s the big wooden bit
with the hole in it. It forms an echo chamber that reverberates the sound when
the strings are plucked or strummed making the sound louder.
Sound Hole
Again, I’m sure you know what a hole looks like. This is basically the entrance
for the sound chamber.
Strings
We’re starting to get technical now, the strings are the long wiry things that
make the noise. Notice how they go down in size. We’ll talk about that later.
Bridge/ Saddle
Like the nut at the top, the saddle provides a bridging action for the strings at
the bottom.
