The story of rediscovering a very important historic vehicle and its conservation whereby the car has been treated as a work of art, saving as much as possible of the amazingly well preserved original. Drawing on art and archaeological techniques, prominent Italian collector Corrado Lopresto decided to clean only half the car, leaving the other half frozen in time. In the uncleaned half, Lopresto preserved everything (including the dust) under a thin layer of transparent matte lacquer. The cleaned part has not been restored either, but has been saved by retouching in such a way that the original aspects are not affected. This book captures the rediscovery of this historic vehicle and the way it has been preserved – a fascinating tale of art meeting automobile.
La storia della riscoperta di un veicolo storico molto importante e della sua conservazione in cui l’auto è stata trattata come un’opera d’arte, salvando il più possibile l’originale straordinariamente ben conservato. Basandosi sull’arte e sulle tecniche archeologiche, l’eminente collezionista italiano Corrado Lopresto ha deciso di pulire solo metà dell’auto, lasciando l’altra metà congelata nel tempo. Nella metà non ripulita, Lopresto ha conservato tutto (compresa la polvere) sotto un sottile strato di lacca trasparente opaca. Anche la parte ripulita non è stata restaurata ma è stata salvata mediante ritocco in modo tale da non intaccare gli aspetti originali. Questo libro cattura la riscoperta di questo veicolo storico e il modo in cui è stato preservato: un’affascinante storia di arte che incontra l’automobile.
