Trickling Filters
Trickling Filters are designed to allow untreated wastewater to percolate or
trickle through the fixed media of zoogloeal mass.
Zoogloeal mass consists of many of the same types of microscopic animals and
plants that grow in suspension within an aeration basin.
In the Trickling Filter environment, the microscopic biology clings to and grows
on the fixed media.
The zoogloeal mass adsorbs (clings to) and absorbs (ingests) the organic BOD
material and physical filters and removes the suspended solids.
