PCR assays are not only useful in detecting the presence of trace
VetBooks.ir amounts of viral nucleic acid in tissues. They can also be used to
amplify specific genes from within an animal's own DNA. For
example, if the primers are correctly selected, they can be used to
amplify normal or abnormal genes. Thus PCR can identify SCID
foals or cattle with leukocyte adherence deficiency (Chapter 39).
