                •  Never weigh directly onto the pan but use
                  a suitable container (for example, foil caps,
                  weigh boats) or, after taring, weigh directly
                  into the vessel being used to make a solution/
                  preparation.
                •  When adding or removing chemicals to/from
                  the balance, avoid spilling on the balance pan.
                •  Clean up any spills immediately.
                •  Cover the balance when not in use.
                •  Balances (especially high precision, analytical
                  balances) should stand on a stable (vibration
                  free) table.
