if not allowed to escape. Always use protec-
tive gloves when dealing with dry ice. It is
so cold that it will either burn your skin, or
more likely cause frostbite. By using a pair
of gloves, you can safely handle the dry ice
without injury.
PortabLE dry IcE MakEr
A portable dry ice maker generates approxi-
mately 1 kg of solid carbon dioxide in just 1 min.
A dry ice maker is safe and simple to use and
requires no electrical power. The unit is simply
attached to a cylinder of compressed liquid car-
bon dioxide via a hose with an internal siphon
and valve (Figure 2.15).
The dry ice maker creates one solid block of
solid carbon dioxide weighing approximately
