Many different types of thermometers exist:

• the common thermometer (always use ther-
mometers without mercury, because the
mercury vapours – released when a thermom-
eter is broken – are hazardous)
• certified thermometers
• minimum–maximum thermometers: ther-
mometer with gliders (can be reset by using
a magnet) (Figure 2.17)
• digital thermometer with internal and exter-
nal temperature measuring probe (Figure
