anything, and that is admirable. You inspired me to basically “be better by doing better”. You deserve an all star award.
To Dru: You were one of the highlights of the day when I came to band believe it or not. Whether you actually were or not, you always seemed to be in a positive mood at rehearsal, and you never failed to make me laugh or smile. I will certainly miss all the random noises you made on the field and the weird names you called me. Thanks for always being you. Also, I want you to know that I am sorry Lorrha broke your glasses. She is JFD.
To Tyler: Where do I even begin? First of all, eat with utensils next year at band camp for the sake of the incoming freshmen. Also, don’t encourage them to steal pots and pans from the kitchen. Lastly, you better continue to hold the record for number of cookies taken from the dessert station at CR. But seriously, you were always the hidden star of the cymbal line. You always did your best to get the job done. You never complained, and you never asked for any praise. Your hard work over the past 3 seasons I have marched with you has not gone unnoticed.
To Peyton: Thanks for always being there since day 1. You helped me stay sane throughout this whole season and I cannot thank you enough for that. Thanks for stepping up when I was being JFD. We made it and I’m happy you’re the one I made it with.
To all the cymbals: I was going to give a shoutout about our dear friend Helen, but I figured she wouldn’t be able to read it. Oh well...
To Trevor: You’re my “dawg” or whatever you and the rest of the snares say. Seriously though. I was pretty sad when I heard you were not going to be doing band this season until I got that text from you in the summer. Just knowing that you changed your mind and were coming back to UDMB made me excited for the season to start. I am glad you stuck it out for one more round because it gave me the strength to keep pushing forward when I thought I couldn’t. We both know we are maxed out, but we ended on a great one. Thanks for being an awesome battery captain, an inspirational leader and musician, and an even better friend.
To the Percussion Staff: Thank you for always believing in me, for accepting me, and for sharing your knowledge with me since day 1. I could not have asked for a better team of people to be my role models and mentors. You are the reason we (the students) are able to keep doing what we love.

I swear literally yesterday I was sitting on my freshly made bed in Indy, completely clueless as to what I was getting myself into, but full of excitement that I’d finally be getting to join the band that I had watched every fall Saturday of my childhood, and only hoped that I’d get to be a part of some day. That was yesterday, right?
As everyone says, when the seniors tell you as freshmen to savor every moment of band because before you know it, it’ll be over, I remember laughing at that thinking, “they’re over-exaggerating. That won’t be me and how I feel.” I’m glad I didn’t say that out loud, because surely someone would’ve kicked my little freshman butt. Blink...and it’s over.
