ROME - Hotel Splendide Royal: The Splendide Royal is a romantic, opulent and small luxury
hotel located opposite the Villa Borghese gardens,
just a few blocks from the elegant Via Veneto and
a short walk from the Spanish Steps. Housed in a
former eighteenth-century palace in the heart of
“Noble Rome,” the five-star property features a
rooftop dining room, Mirabelle, which is one of
the most special settings in the Eternal City. This
is NOT a contemporary-styled hotel property.
While some of Rome’s leading hotels have bowed
to contemporary design trends, the Splendide
Royal is a monument to the glory of Baroque Rome and the history of this space. The property
is sumptuously decorated with marble floors, Murano glass chandeliers, gilt mirrors, oil
paintings and a domed skylight in the lobby. www.splendideroyal.com/

CHIANTI – Villa Bordoni: A sixteenth century villa located in the Chianti hills with views
over acres of olive trees and vineyards, this
country villa was once the summer residence and
wine estate of a wealthy Florentine family. Owned
today by a Scottish couple who operate several
successful restaurants in Florence, it is now a
stunning retreat where each of the 11 guestrooms is
furnished with flair and originality, and above all
else with great attention to detail, by the Florentine
               interior designer Riccardo Barthel. Everything
from the trompe l’oeil wallpaper to the antique bar
displays a keen attention to Italian authenticity.
The mix of modern and antique works well and adds informality to the property. In line with the
villa hotel’s unpretentious chic approach, the food in the stylish restaurant is gourmet without
being too complex. Visit the hotel’s wine cellar housed in an eleventh-century dungeon, or
enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine in the sitting room with a cozy fireplace. Outside, you will
find a wonderful walled garden, a swimming pool set in a lovely spot among the olive groves
and an open-air fitness pavilion. Ideally located directly above Greve-in-Chianti and close to the
