               Inspired by 1930’s art deco, the Thierry Despont’s
               magnificent foyer is the setting for an indulgent
               afternoon tea at Claridges.  Let us know if we can
               arrange this for you.  For shopping, you’ll have ample
               opportunities in St. James’s and Mayfair, but don’t
               miss the boutiques of Knightsbridge, Sloane Square,
               Bond Street or Carnaby Street in Soho.

               Day 9: Churchill and Buckingham Palace.  Start the day today with a very special experience
               in the form of a private guided tour of Churchill’s Cabinet War Rooms with the longtime former
                                                              director.  The private visit will take place before
                                                              the museum has opened and will allow you to
                                                              visit areas of the facility that are not open to the
                                                              public. The War Rooms, which were sealed off
                                                              in 1945 for 30 years, during which the space
                                                              was officially listed as a “government secret,”
                                                              are absolutely captivating.  You’ll think that
                                                              Churchill and his team just stepped out for tea.
                                                              Everything down to the prime minister’s modest
                                                              bed is authentic. You’ll go behind the glass
               where regular visitors aren’t allowed to go for an up-close inspection of original maps and other
               fine details. Take some time after the 1-hr tour to visit the adjacent Churchill Museum, too.
               Fascinating!  The services of the former director are subject to availability at the time of
               booking.

               After lunch today, we can arrange a visit to Buckingham Palace where you can tour the State
               Rooms (this is a self-guided multimedia tour of approximately 1 hr), followed by a guided small
               group tour of the Palace gardens (45 min).  Note that our Blue Badge guides are not allowed to
               lead tours, but you will be in good hands with the palace staff!
               What about a theatre performance this evening?  We will be happy to provide options nearer to
               your travel dates.
