Synthetic phonics approach
A synthetic phonics approach: first teaches children the individual
sounds represented by letters and letter combinations and how to
blend those sounds to pronounce words. Then, the relationships or
phonics generalizations that apply are identified.
For example, after the child learns the sounds of the letters /b/,
short /a/, and /t/, they can be asked to blend the sounds /b/, /a/,
and /t/ to produce the word bat.
