Eating Gyudon in Naples
By Riko
It was an unusually rainy day, I bumped into a classmate on the way
home. Alexia and I are studying at the same language school, which is right
along the seashore. Every day, we are able to go to school and leave
school with the scent of the sea breeze surrounding us, in Naples. Florida. I
only know that Alexia is from Germany, and was sorted into the same class
as me.
One day, we decided to eat lunch together at the bar on Fifth Avenue
South and although we haven’t known each other for long, we were able to
very easily catch up on how we were doing, and share our aspirations. We
both confided to each other that we remained undecided on what we
wanted to do when we returned to our home countries. Our concerns were
similar in this uncertainty, but at the very least we agreed on a vague
dream to somehow spread our respective cultures throughout America.
And as if by fate, a man nearby overheard us, and after having introduced
himself as an investor living in the area, o ered to invest in our dream to
spread our cultures in Naples through food.
A month later, at the beginning of summer, we were finally able to open a
Gyu Don restaurant that also sells German beer. We set it up on Fifth
Avenue South, and look forward to success, since beef and beer seem to be
popular in America.
The rainy season has finally ended, and I have realized how much my life
has changed just from meeting new people. Now, I dream of becoming a
bridge between Naples and Japan through Japanese food. [279 words].
