System Performance Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Amazing patient care
Clinical Focus Group Readmissions achieved its target for the second month in a row. The regional teams have recently
focused on sharing best practices around chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) readmissions. The Lorain region
has demonstrated significant reduction in COPD readmissions in 2017 through a collaborative approach involving
pulmonary and ED physicians, quality team members, case management and pharmacy. As COPD is also an ambulatory
care sensitive condition, efforts put in place to optimize care for patients with COPD not only impact readmissions but also
reduce the number of brief, initial admissions these patients frequently experience.
Operational excellence
Mercy Health Select’s performance on the lives managed via Medicare Advantage plans is exceeding both target and
budget. This is driven by improved performance in clinical quality outcomes. MHS is focused on managing chronic
conditions to reduce avoidable admissions as we head into 2018.
The Mercy Health consolidated operating income for October was $14.0M, favorable to the budget by $12.9M. Year-to-date
operating income is $143M, favorable to the budgeted operating income of $91.2M. Mercy Health Physicians was favorable
to budget in October by $1.9M.
Creating the future
In the fall of 2016, Evisits were launched within MHP primary care. After evaluating input from our providers, we are
re-launching the Evisit program in a way that provides both our providers and patients more options. By offering Evisits, we
are able to deliver on our promise to make healthcare easier. In order for us to succeed in this relaunch, we must work to
continue to increase our MyChart Activation rates. Mercy Health Physicians is moving in the right direction with a 15%
improvement over prior year as of October in activation rates. Mercy Health Physicians’ President, Staci Lucius, and Medical
Director, Dr. Betsy Drake, will continue to engage our providers and patients to ensure the Evisit program is a success.
