The divisional structure still operated at this time, the four
divisions now being:

HOTELS AND INNS;

LEISURE

PROPERTY and

HEALTHCARE

The Healthcare Division was not fully operational at that
time.

Andros Stakis brought in his own, much younger,

management team to take the company forward on the

basis of a £500 million investment programme. At the same

time Sir Reo recruited Alex Pagett to operate in the areas of

corporate affairs and communications.

A key figure in this programme, however, was expected to

be Neil Chisman who took over as finance director in May

1989. Chisman, a certified accountant, who had worked in a
range of industries. He came most immediately from

Underwoods the retail chain of chemists taken over by

Boots. He also had a spell as an academic at Surrey
