Another development was the purchase, in 1990, of the
Firkin chain of pubs from European Leisure for £9.7 million.

This was the first venture of the company into the public

house sector in England. These pubs added to the 30 or so

outlets already owned. Andros Stakis described the move

as "an important element" of the Group's strategy and said:

"Today's deal is a major step forward both in terms of

acquiring a brand which is widely acclaimed, and in taking

                 our pub business into England".

                 Hotels Divisions

The Hotels Division was built up over the years by a

combination of acquisition and new development. A

number of acquisitions were made in the Aviemore area of

Scotland and there was also the development of a

multi-ownership scheme - Coylumbridge Highland Lodges

Club - a number of time share lodges close to and sharing
the facilities of the Coylumbridge Hotel.
