Page 34 - CL Case Structure
P. 34
1. Teaching objective
2. Identify the case lead
3. Collect information through documents and/or
interviews
4. Write the case and obtain permission to publish
5. Write the Teaching Notes and test run the case in a
class situation – observe and amend.
These steps look impressive at first sight. However, if taken
in a prescriptive manner they will only lead to a trickle of
case studies being developed.
Cases develop from a multitude of stimuli varying from
newspaper articles, news documentaries, colleagues,
supervised student dissertations, guest lectures and so on.
Accessing the media is a critical step in case lead generation
Cases are not subject specific and to simply base a case on
identifying teaching objectives may not encompass the
multi-disciplinary nature of case studies.
