bank using the internet connection in his hotel room. “

These would have made him a large profit of up to
€3.9 million if Dortmund's share price were to plummet

after a successful attack, but it only dropped by 5% after the

attack and later recovered. The unusual transaction
however, raised suspicion of money laundering with bank

employees, prompting them to alert authorities and pass on

to them the identity of Sergej W., which led to his arrest.
Police also said Sergej W. had left the letters at the scene of

the crime in an attempt to frame Muslims for the attack and

               stoke terrorist fear.

Had the stock price fallen by €1, Sergej W. could have made
a profit of more than €500,000. “If several, or even all the

BVB players had been badly injured or even killed, and if the

club had then no longer been able to play in would have

been a significantly negative effect on the value of BVB’s
shares,” prosecutors said in the indictment.

Sergej W. ultimately told the court in Dortmund that he was
responsible for the bombing but had not intended to kill

anyone. He claimed he learned to make the devices by

               searching on Google.

According to the act of indictment,

“Sergej W. had taken out a loan days before the attack
and bet a total of €44,300 in put options and other

financial transactions on the collapse of BVB's stocks

                       following the attack.
