Origins
In early November 2010 Litan Bhowmik phoned Jim ......... asking if he
could come and see him. Litan had been an MBA student of Jim's and
he readily agreed to the meeting. However, at this point there was no
indication of what the meeting was to be about other than it was just to
catch-up and stay in touch.
In the event, Litan failed to arrive for the meeting and Jim chalked it off
to typical student behaviour.
In mid-December 2010 Litan again phoned Jim apologising for missing
the meeting with him and asking if he could come and see him the
following week. Again Jim agreed but still without any knowledge of
what the meeting was to be about. Unfortunately, mid to Late
December saw the coldest winter on record for Scotland and
Edinburgh was for some time effectively snowbound making it
impossible for Litan to travel from Dundee where he lived and worked
as a Burger King manager.
However, in the first week of January Litan once again called and
arranged to meet Jim at his home in Edinburgh. This time the meeting
took place.
Meeting 1: 10/01/2011
At this first meeting Litan laid out his ideas which essentially were to
set up a company to produce a machine for the process of water
disinfection. He said that the scientist in Moscow who had developed
the technology had, for a stake in the new company, signed the
international patent over to Litan to commercialise and that a prototype
had been built in Leeds University. To date some £20,000 had been
spent on obtaining the international patent and building the prototype.
