• When there is risk of aortic dissection—as in
coarctation of aorta or Marfan’s syndrome with
dilatation of aortic root.
Tubal ligation is the ideal method of sterilization
for those people in whom pregnancy is absolutely
contraindicated. It is better to avoid elective cardiac
surgery during pregnancy. The ideal time for any
interventional cardiac procedure like balloon mitral
valvuloplasty is during the early second trimester
(between 14 to 18 weeks).
