Causes of long QT syndrome
• The autosomal dominant Romano-Ward syndrome.
• The autosomal recessive Jervell and Lange-Nielsen
syndrome with sensorineural deafness.
• Hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia or hypocalcemia.
• Antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g. quinidine, sotalol, etc.).
• Certain nonsedating antihistamines (e.g. terfenadine,
astemizole etc.).
• Macrolide antibiotics.
• Certain psychotropic medications (e.g. haloperidol,
thioridazine etc.).
• Certain gastric motility agents (e.g. cisapride).
