P. 4

Dear friends in Christ,

As I write this article on Tuesday, March 24th, I am wondering what will have changed by the
time you read this in the Traveler. Such an ”eerie” experience, an almost “is this really happen-
ing” feeling. Even though we can’t worship face to face, we are staying connected as much as
possible and continue to brainstorm creative ways to increase our connections with one an-
other and continue to care for our neighbors.

A song many of us learned in Sunday School, “Jesus Loves Me,” keeps running through my
head. As I was looking for hymns for “Alexa” to play during our first Facebook-live Sunday ser-
                         nd
vice, March 22 , I came across the cutest version sung by the Wonder Kids which brings such
a smile. (Check it out online – The Wonder Kids which has over 100 Bible songs and stories for
those aged 1-6…guaranteed to bring a smile). Oh, by the way, no more Alexa…I incorrectly as-
sumed songs were public domain. (Another learning experience)

Those Sunday School songs and favorite hymns I grew up with (you know, way back when in
those “olden days” as I used to describe my parents’ and grandparents’ growing up years and
now find myself being categorized in) keep me grounded during these uncertain times where
our routines are interrupted. Don’t get me wrong...I love new hymns too; I’m really missing
our beautiful Holden Evening Worship Services; but familiarity is assuring.

The same goes for our familiar Bible stories as we hear over and over God’s presence, empa-
thy, and hope in the midst of hard times; God was present in the difficult stories of Exodus; Je-
sus grieved in the death of his friend Lazarus; Jesus brought hope to his disciples when he ap-
peared to them after his resurrection. Finding God in all our familiar Bible stories comfort and
assure us. What stories bring you hope and assurance during this uncertain time?

                                                                                                                   4
