shortfalls but have yet to hear long term solutions or a willingness for members to put
together viable stewardship and evangelism teams which we all can take part in.
I again reiterate - no one wants to sell the building; we all have ties there. We have
worshiped there, baptized our babies, married our young people, and buried those
whom we have loved and lost. Our history is there, but at the same time in the end
we carry all those things with us WHEREVER we go.
I want to remind all of us that Trinity is the congregation, not the building. We are
called as disciples to care for the poor and oppressed, to share the love of God
through that care. Has our building become an idol? In the end it isn’t entirely about
money; it is about discipleship and how we live that out in the Durand community.
You, the people of Trinity have suffered two of your churches burning to the ground.
You know, deep in your bones, Trinity is not the building – that has always been part
of your DNA. Trinity is the people of God doing the work God calls us into. If we stay
that course then we can regroup, just like we did those many years ago and rise
again another day to be resurrected in a new way in the Durand community.
Thankfully, I am taking some vacation days next week to rest, to play, to ponder, to
take a break from Trinity. I have not done well in setting boundaries between my per-
sonal time and Trinity time. Trinity is always on my mind.
I leave you with my favorite prayer which I will be praying: “O God, you have called
your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrod-
den, through perils unknown. Give us faith to do your work with good courage, not
knowing where we go, but only that your hand through the power of the Holy Spirit is
leading us and your love supporting us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”
Peace,
Sharon
