information needed as we consider whether to bring a vote to the congregation regarding the
sale of the building. This appraisal, however, cost less than $2,000.00.
As stated elsewhere in the Traveler, council and Pastors have made many efforts to decrease
expenditures. Decreasing the amount of money that we are giving to Northern Illinois Synod
is something that is being discussed by council. No decisions have been made, however, at
this time, council does not recommend suspending our support. Council feels that we should
still offer our support to the Synod, but realize that we may need to decrease our original plan
for the year.
Terminating the contract with Pastor Pat Esker to be a mentor to Sharon Beksel, our Synodi-
cally Authorized Minister (SAM), would also terminate our contract with Sharon Beksel, as a
mentor is a requirement of using a SAM. This would leave Trinity without pastoral leadership.
We have no doubt that things would be more challenging if we no longer had a building, but
also wonder if God is calling us to reflect on where we are heading even with a building. This
year, we have no volunteers to support evangelism or stewardship. Without those ministries,
are we supporting the purpose of being a church?
Please take time to pray for your council and our congregation as we are faced with some
tough decisions during a very tough year. Also, pray for what you yourself can offer to help
keep the ministries of Trinity Lutheran Church of Durand going. As we have said all along,
contact your council with your questions, thoughts, and suggestions.
UNITED, WE STAND, DIVIDED, WE FALL!
Your fellow servants in Christ,
Trinity Lutheran Church Council
