From the Pastor’s Study…
Matthew 28:16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to
17
which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some
18
doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth
19
has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
20
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you
always, to the end of the age."
The above passage is the very ending of the gospel of Matthew. Although, it’s not really an
ending, is it? Jesus has risen and now he gathers his disciples to send them into the world em-
powered to continue his ministry—to be the very hands and feet and voice of God in the
world. Which of course can be a rather scary and daunting commission. But Jesus does not
just say “go” but also says he will not leave them to their own devises but rather reassures
them that he will be with them always. They can go out into the world with all that they need
to be the face of God and to participate in helping to bring about the reign of God.
As disciples of Jesus, we too have received this commission. We are inheritors of the work
Jesus tasked his disciples to be about in the world. And we too have also received the assur-
ance of his presence. And so, we are all called to evangelize. To tell people about Jesus
through our words and actions and to do so knowing that Jesus is with us.
One of the ways we are fulfilling our commission is
through our Vacation Bible School. It is a wonderful out-
reach into the community and tells the story of what God
has done through Jesus not only to the children of the
Durand/Davis community, but also to their parents and to
all those good folks that help with VBS. It is a really great
ministry and I hope you will support it any way you can!
