Where has this school year gone? Sunday School is over for the summer, kids are
out of school or soon will be, college students are home for the summer. What a
great time to re-connect with our college students and perhaps take in a baseball
game watching our youth.
During our Last Sunday School /Confirmation team meeting and in our last staff
meeting, we wondered how we might develop inter-generational relationships be-
tween our students and adults. How can we keep our youth connected and involved
with Trinity after confirmation and during their college years? How might we better get
to know our youth as we watch them grow both physically and spiritually?
As a congregation, we promise at baptisms and affirmations of baptism, to support
and pray for those being baptized and affirming their faith. Our Partners in Prayer is
an important ministry in fulfilling our promises and one way to let our students know
that we care and are thinking of them. Wouldn’t it be great for a college student to get
an email or a written note with a prayer of encouragement every now and then?
Wouldn’t our Sunday School and confirmation students feel really cared for by us if
they knew someone was praying for them and we stopped and asked about their
lives?
In fact, wouldn’t that be a source of comfort for all us to know that we are being lifted
in prayer by another? It may seem difficult for some, but I’d like to encourage each of
us to make contact with our Partners in Prayer – just to let them know they are being
prayed for and even perhaps ask if they have a specific prayer request. I have to ad-
mit, I just recently contacted the family I have been praying for this past quarter. I un-
derstand the hesitancy is reaching out, especially if we do not know them.
