              Global Distribution Systems

The information technology in the travel and tourism
industry has prospered with the establishment of computer-
based reservation systems created by airlines. These
systems form the most important information distribution
network and the exchange of structured data amongst
computer networks, which are used by many companies to
support their needs of information exchange. They are
widely regarded as the critical initiator of the electronic age.
Computerised reservation systems or global distribution
systems have been instrumental in the provision of real-
time information about timetables and prices required by
the tourism industry and its customers.

The term CRS stands for "Computerised Reservation
System", which is a technology used to control airline's
seats for sales and operational purposes and also provides
access to the reservation facilities of other travel suppliers.
