The colours used in my work resemble those of Marie Antoinette’s family Coat
of Arms paying homage to her own auspicious ancestry.
This work explores the sumptuous fabrics, fashions and tastes of the time, with
a macabre finale. Whatever the subject matter it is possible to portray beauty
with thread and fabric. Painting with thread and fabric can be a pain staking
process, but the textures and qualities of the result is my reward.
I like to vary my work and there is many an un-started project in my head just
waiting its turn. Will it be the work promised to a friend for his fiftieth birthday
with a working title of Brighton Rock, or an illustrated poem entitled The
Lovely Long Ago. I do know that I intend to get bigger and bolder with my
work. I started by tentatively making wearable objects, but realised that I am
drawn more to large and intricate projects. I’m not a quick worker and I’m not
so good with pressure either so with each new project I try and push myself to
do a little better, a little more ambitious and so my journey continues. I don’t
have an end goal, as such, just to be the best that I can be and continue to
satisfy the stitch in my sobriety.
