Allsorts Cakes
Sydney
People often ask me “how did you learn to make cakes”?
Well to be honest I probably learnt through my
addiction to baking shows on Foxtel and watching
Buddy and Duff create amazing cake masterpieces on
their hit tv shows.
Then, one year a friend of mine gifted me a box of cake
decorating items for Christmas. He often referred to
me as the Tonia Todman of our share house. You may
remember her off a 90’s lifestyle show called ‘Healthy
Wealthy and Wise’. She was the sensible crafty lady that
could lay her hand to anything creative. I guess when
you compared me to others in the house, I probably
did seem a little tweedy and a craft nerd since I had just
re-upholstered my bed head and made matching
artworks for my wall...
So that’s where my cake journey began. I started by
making my own 30th birthday cake. It was a hideous
two tier pink square cake with white chocolate buttons
stuck all over it. Terrible!
A couple of years later, I was lucky enough to land
myself an administration job in a local patisserie
academy. I befriended a couple of fellow cake decorator
ladies and they introduced me to the local cake
decorating guild and advised me to get lessons from a
local lady that would teach her students anything they
liked. So, I did about 10 lessons with said lady and I was
on my way.
