My posting as Chief PMG,Karnataka circle:
It was after a year of my holding charge as Controller the post of
PMG, Karnataka circle fell vacant. A simple request from me made
to the DG, Post Sri.S.K.Parthasarathy to offer me that position was
accepted and I was transferred as PMG,Karnataka.I could say with
satisfaction that some of my dreams and projects like paperless
office,networking of computers ,rationalised system of sorting could
be implemented because I was offered opportunity to work in a
Circle which had much scope for introducing innovation.
I had some non cooperation from my regional PMG who entertained
the idea of displacing me as Chief PMG in the manner of a coup
d’état by fomenting discontent in the unions in Udipi – Mangalore
belt. She was sure that any agitation in a part of mail sorting units
would eventually spread to other units not germane to the issue of
dispute in Udipi alone and thereby entangle me in charge of mail
units functioning peacefully. So having come to know my regional
PMG’s plan in advance I applied and got a few days leave
sanctioned by the DG himself. Sri.S.C.Mahalik apparently by means
of intelligence gathered from the central union was convinced that
the officer who provoked the union at Udipi to go on strike must as
well manage the strike without involving the other units .Needless
to say the strike which broke out on a circle basis had to be dealt
with by the regional PMG and a truce worked out.
When my leave period expired I in the usual course contacted on

phone the DG and announced my intention to join duty on 1
Jan.,1995.The DG also not only okayed my proposal but also threw a
special word of advice that in a fortnight from then the department
intended to inaugurate electronic mail service by delivering an email
to Sri.Deve Gowda the Hon’ble CM of Karnataka state and so I
must pay special attention so that the project went through without
any hitch. That was the measure of confidence he placed in me and I
saw to it that the project did indeed take off successfully by means of
