ago. From 94 workers, up to 30 found themselves legally at a dead
end, they decided to resist on 27 February and on 28 April they
occupied the factory. In August-September the 13 or 14 workers
still actively working are going over to production. This is a first.
The inside of the five-story building is in a dilapidated con-
dition. The former boss in particular damaged it before gong, they
say. At the entrance there is a pile of thread of many colours and
lengths. It is heavy work, and in the department where men are
on duty, the weaving workshop, there are only three or five ma-
chines in service, weighing eight tonnes and 17 metres in length.
Forty of fifty-year old technology with a motor reminiscent of a
chemin de fer. The boss seems to have overlooked these, perhaps
only thinking of selling machines as scrap metal for their iron con-
tent. Who knows what happened here with workers with names
like Yakup or Osman, working these machines? Apart from these,
the ready-made clothing department upstairs where women
worked on samples and the ironing department are totally empty...
Here and there sweater collars are to be seen, as well as labels
for well-known brands and posters that workers attached to the
wall.
We say that the Kazova workers are producing sweaters, but
there are only two machines that have been repaired and are in a
condition to weave. Because of the lack of machines, collars are
given to outside workers to be connected to sweaters, and this is
paid for with the money from sweaters that have been sold. After
the 33-year-old Aynur Aydemir worked for eight years at Kazova,
she had to work in a department located under the stairs, but such
is the energy of resistance that after working hours she comes from
